Planting Tulip Bulbs
The rapid approach of Spring is heralded by the growing appearance of beautiful tulips. Planting tulip bulbs can be a great fall activity that will reward you with these flowers come spring. You can plot your garden by placing your bulbs where you want them to go. Plan to replace the bulbs every five to six years.
Planting tulip bulbs can be fun and easy! Are you dreaming of your own tulip garden and wondering how to start planting? Follow these steps and tips to make your dream come true.
The first task of digging a hole for planting the tulip is more than simple and easy; the depth of the hole must be about ten inches and the soil at the bottom of the hole has to be left a little loose just to help air and water travel through, without hindrance, to in and around the bulb you have planted. Do this by putting back 2-3 inches of the soil you have dug up, and it will have enough air in it.
You must be sure that the bulb is placed correctly in the hole. Be sure to plant all your tulip bulbs at the same depth. The large part of the bulb is placed in the dirt and the smaller portion is pointing upwards. Be careful in planting because if you plant them too deep they won't grow, but if you don't plant them deep enough animals will dig them up for a snack!
The most vibrant gardens will be the ones where the gardener used manure or compost to fill in the holes during planting, rather than just regular fill dirt. If you're looking for the best tip for your tulip bulbs to be in full bloom, nitrogen is most likely the option you want to choose. The surface should be firmly packed so animals don't dig up your beautiful tulips, but be careful not to jostle the bulbs out of place. To put the proverbial cherry on top, sprinkle mulch over the top of the bed to lock in the moisture and keep rodents out.
Planting tulip bulbs can be a bit tedious, especially when planting a lot of them. Take the time to plant a few tulip bulbs today: your reward will come year after year.
